There are some days where everything seems to go right and you’re really productive, then there are some where we basically do nothing all day and we just need a boost of inspiration. Where can you look for inspiration? Simple. All around you. Just relax and let the inspiration come to you. Here are my tips:
“Don’t underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering.”
I know it’s tempting to think about that time last week when something went wrong, but don’t! Just try to let it go and relax… Instead, try making a list of what you’re proud of and what you hope to achieve in the future.
“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude”
Try to change your mind frame, try to look to the future rather than worry about the past.
Tidy your room, do some washing, whatever needs doing in your home that you’ve been putting off for ages. I recently helped a friend clear out their room and it took over 3 hours, but it looked amazing afterwards, and you could actually see the floor. They realised they had a rug!
Have a clear out
Whether it’s your underwear drawer or your coat hanger, go through everything and if you don’t think you’ll wear it again or it’s looking worse for wear, chuck it or donate it. I often go through my wardrobe and have a good clear out, and it feels so much better and looks so much tidier! If you have a drawer where you put random things you find in the house, have a look at everything in it and see whether there is any need to keep them, you might not even know what they’re for, or if you have two or more of the same thing, you probably don’t need all of them. Throw away bits of paper you don’t need, or even better put all of your notes into a bullet journal, so they’re all in one place!
Having a clear room will make it easier to get out of bed in the morning, as you’ll be creating a tidy space that you can actually walk around. Try tidying up your wardrobe as well so getting out clothes in the morning will be less stressful, or try getting out your clothes the night before.
Create a hygge
I recently heard this word and had no idea what it was, it’s basically the feeling that comes with pleasure in making ordinary, everyday moments more meaningful, beautiful and special. This could be an evening in with friends. It’s being aware of a good moment whether it’s simple or special. Create a quiet spot in your home where you can have some morning inspiration.
“Hygge doesn’t require learning or adopting it or buying anything. It requires being present & recognising hygge moments. That’s all.”
I created my own Hygge, it’s a space on my floor next to my bed and radiator (which makes it extra cosy), where I have a floor pillow, a rug, some pillows and blankets, I also normally keep magazines, books, my bullet journal, a few pens and my laptop. This is where I go for some peace, it’s my little inspiration corner.
Accessorise your home
Get some decorations for your home, go for an uplifting and happy colour which will lift your mood. You could also get some flowers or a plant to brighten up your home.
Get a plant
They will make your room look so much nicer and it also gives you a little responsibility. Succulents are a great choice – they look so nice. Some plants can also help you relax, I’ve had plants that smell like chocolate!
I have currently got a cactus, a succulent and an Aloe plant. My favourite has got to be a Cactus – but be careful of the spikes!
Whether it’s with a friend you see all the time or a friend you haven’t seen in ages, have a catch up with them and arrange to meet up. You could have a pamper day or go out and do something. This gives you something to look forward to and will instantly boost your mood.
“You can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.”
If you want something, go and get it, don’t just wait for it to come to you. Something could be there one second and the next it’s gone.
Sing your heart out
I know this makes me feel ten times better, turning up my speaker, singing and dancing to my favourite playlist (normally when no one’s in the house).
“You’re going to be criticised no matter what you do, so you might as well do what you love.”
Just do what you love and don’t care what anyone else thinks.
Have some me time
Buy a face mask, have a bath, do whatever makes you feel happy. Meditation is also a good way to relax, it makes you aware of your breathing. There are plenty of colouring books designed to relax you as well, which can be extremely therapeutic.
Do some exercise
Try to do this in the morning, so you feel refreshed for the day. I like to do some yoga, as this is an easy exercise to do when you wake up. I normally get up before work to do this or when I get home, the routine I do normally takes about 15-20 minutes to do.
Have a good breakfast
If you start the day with a healthy breakfast, this will make you feel great for the rest of the day. Try getting up earlier so you have time to prepare and eat a healthy breakfast, rather than eating something quick on the go.
Everything from scribbling down your thoughts on a bit of paper to blogging can be very therapeutic, as this can be an easy way to get down all your thoughts and feelings if you’re not the best at expressing them to others. It will make you feel so much better if you’ve got a lot on your mind.
“Do not write to impress others. Authors who write to impress people have difficulty remaining true to themselves.”
Don’t worry about what others think, just write what you feel.
Don’t judge a book by its cover
Try not to judge others before you get to know them. That’s where people go wrong, they make assumptions before they see the whole picture and actually get to know someone, you could be missing out on so much.
“Weeds are flowers, too, once you get to know them.”
Be kind to others
No matter how small it may seem to you (holding the door for someone), it could mean the world to them.
“Sometimes the smallest things take the most room in your heart.”
Don’t ever give up
Don’t listen to others who say you can’t do it, if you put your mind to it, you can do anything.
“You never fail until you stop trying”
If there’s something you really want, never give up.
Believe in yourself
Above all else, to succeed in life you have to believe in yourself, no one else is going to do it for you.
“Nobody’s going to stick up for you if you don’t stick up for yourself.”
The only way to succeed in life is to believe in yourself and your abilities.
When you reflect confidence, you will feel much happier in yourself.
“The things that make me different are the things that make me.”
Love yourself just the way you are!
And just remember…
“You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”
